A country better known for its cultural attractions and its tragic history, Cambodia doesn’t often catch the attention of fashion-focused globe-trotters.
But a group of designers and forward-thinkers are trying to change what visitors expect from the Southeast Asian country that’s home to the temples of Angkor Wat.
“We all know that Cambodia is one of the third-world countries,” one scenester tells Vice during the country’s first-ever fashion week. “With this fashion week it means that they are moving forward not only in terms of the political situation or the economic situation but as well as fashion.”
While the styles are surprisingly outre — and the post-show adventures even more so — there’s also a fascinating look at the country’s garment industry and its place in the global fashion economy.
